History Rooted in Daikanyama

After opening in Sendagaya in 1972, the shop relocated to Daikanyama in 1979. Since then, it has continued to operate at the same location for over 46 years. Housed in a renovated traditional Japanese home, the store embraced American vintage clothing and West Coast culture from its earliest days, becoming a pioneer of American casual fashion in Japan. 「HOLLYWOOD RANCH MARKET」 has had a profound influence on Daikanyama culture, and to this day, continues to share its unique vision throughout the area alongside sister stores like 「OKURA」 and 「Hi! STANDARD」.

The building's exterior is covered in ivy, with repurposed scrap wood sculptures of dinosaurs and elephants—making it hard to believe it’s a clothing store at first glance.

Original Products Crafted in Japan

At the time of its founding, the lineup mainly featured used denim western shirts, chambray shirts, and flannel shirts. Today, the focus has shifted to original items with an emphasis on Japanese craftsmanship. While the fashion industry moves toward simple and efficient production, 「HOLLYWOOD RANCH MARKET」 continues to pursue garments that balance function, comfort, and long-lasting wear. Its hallmark is meticulous attention to detail.

The brand’s first original item was a bandana made from soft gauze fabric. From the very beginning, it has been consistently produced in Japan and is still available today for ¥1,500 to ¥3,000.

Under the original brand 「BLUE BLUE」, the store offers classic denim items in deep indigo hues. Craft techniques seen in vintage denim and unique Japanese indigo dyeing methods reflect skilled local craftsmanship.

Interior and Fragrance Full of Character

The market-inspired interior is one of the shop’s defining charms. Vintage neon clocks, sea glass, and driftwood collected from beaches are placed throughout the store. The blend of diverse cultures, together with the sweet aroma of incense, stimulates all five senses. Once you step inside, you're welcomed by a warm atmosphere and a memorable experience.

Many repeat customers purchase bundles of the original incense burned in the store. (10 sticks for ¥1,320)

Above the register hangs a large mirror signed by legendary street artist Eric Haze.

The floor is covered with beach glass hand-collected by the staff, adding to the store's distinct worldbuilding.

Curated Style Guided by Conviction

「HOLLYWOOD RANCH MARKET」 curates its items based on its own values, not fleeting trends. Unique pieces include T-shirts created in collaboration with the monster movie 「Godzilla」 and socks featuring the Japanese superhero 「Ultraman」. At the same time, the store also offers trusted staples such as collaborative pack T-shirts and denim items with American brands like 「Hanes」 and 「Lee」, and handcrafted silver accessories made by artisans in Nepal. “Proposing what we love, in a style we believe in.” This consistent philosophy is why the brand continues to gain support across generations and borders.
