Enjoy Drinks with Drag Performers

Led by the iconic Baby Vaggy, various drag queens take turns running the bar each night. An authentic bar where you can drink alongside drag queens is a rare gem in Shinjuku Ni-Chome.

Baby Vaggy, the owner and hostess, made headlines for appearing at the opening ceremony of EXPO 2025 Osaka-Kansai.

A Natural and Playful Space Created by a Chill Hostess

Open the pink door—like something out of "Doraemon"—and you’re greeted by orange walls and cute girl illustrations throughout the space.Despite being a nighttime venue, the vibe is warm and whimsical. Many imagine drag bars in Ni-Chome to always be high-energy, but the service at Conto is refreshingly relaxed. As Mama Vaggy says, “It’s a small place, so there’s no need to overdo it.” That laid-back atmosphere is part of the charm.

The store is easy to spot, thanks to its pink door and a neon sign shaped like its name.

The illustrations found throughout the bar are by Naito Rune, a beloved artist of Mama Vaggy.Naito was a male illustrator known for his work in girls’ publications, and he openly identified as gay during his lifetime.Often considered a pioneer of Japanese "kawaii" culture, Naito’s work continues to draw attention through exhibitions and merchandise even after his passing.

One of Vaggy’s hobbies is knitting. She even makes some of her own costume hats—and on this day, she had a half-finished project in her bag.

Cover Charge and Drink Fees Are Separate—A Uniquely Japanese System

The cover charge is generally ¥3,000, or ¥2,000 for gay men. This includes all-you-can-eat snacks and unlimited karaoke.Drinks are charged separately, and customers choose their preferred drink and how they’d like it prepared.

Drinks start at ¥1,000 per glass, with prices varying depending on the brand.
