Located along Cat Street in Harajuku, “TATTOO STUDIO YAMADA” is home to a variety of tattoo artists, each specializing in different styles, within its three-story building. Its classic exterior and sign design immediately catch the eye. The studio originally began as a small space in the Shibuya–Shinsen area, run solely by owner and tattoo artist Ren Yamada. As more artists joined, it relocated to its current site in 2021. Today, the studio not only offers tattoo services but also sells original apparel and goods, attracting fans of fashion and culture alike.

A Three-Story Building Entirely Dedicated to Tattoo Art

“TATTOO STUDIO YAMADA” was founded by tattoo artist Ren Yamada, who honed his craft abroad. In addition to his work as a tattooist, Yamada co-runs the YouTube channel “OMOSSY CHANNEL”, which covers topics ranging from tattoos to music and broader culture, and has built a large following. The studio currently hosts six tattoo artists who share Yamada’s philosophy, along with photographer Louis Takeuchi. Each artist has their own workspace within the three-story building, allowing them to pursue their art while maintaining their individuality and unique creative style.

The exterior and signage were designed by “NUTS ART WORKS.” The mix of Japanese and Western elements gives the building a striking and cool impression.

Each floor of the three-story building houses workspaces for the resident tattoo artists, each reflecting their own individuality and creative vision.

Artists with Distinctive Styles and Diverse Backgrounds

Each artist at “TATTOO STUDIO YAMADA” has a unique artistic style. Some specialize in pieces inspired by ukiyo-e(traditional Japanese woodblock prints), others focus on American traditional tattoos, and some draw influence from Japanese anime culture. Their artistry, as well as their generations, genders, and nationalities, are all diverse—truly representing a multicultural tattoo scene. This diversity allows clients to select an artist whose style matches their vision, a freedom that contributes to the studio’s popularity. Depending on the artist’s schedule, walk-in tattoos are sometimes available without prior booking.

One of the resident artists, KYOKA, specializes in designs inspired by ukiyo-e. Her workspace is decorated with tattoo flash sheets and original woodblock prints that influence her work.
