Tattoo artists of diverse styles gathered under one roof:
Located along Cat Street in Harajuku, “TATTOO STUDIO YAMADA” is home to a variety of tattoo artists, each specializing in different styles, within its three-story building. Its classic exterior and sign design immediately catch the eye. The studio originally began as a small space in the Shibuya–Shinsen area, run solely by owner and tattoo artist Ren Yamada. As more artists joined, it relocated to its current site in 2021. Today, the studio not only offers tattoo services but also sells original apparel and goods, attracting fans of fashion and culture alike.
“TATTOO STUDIO YAMADA” was founded by tattoo artist Ren Yamada, who honed his craft abroad. In addition to his work as a tattooist, Yamada co-runs the YouTube channel “OMOSSY CHANNEL”, which covers topics ranging from tattoos to music and broader culture, and has built a large following. The studio currently hosts six tattoo artists who share Yamada’s philosophy, along with photographer Louis Takeuchi. Each artist has their own workspace within the three-story building, allowing them to pursue their art while maintaining their individuality and unique creative style.
The exterior and signage were designed by “NUTS ART WORKS.” The mix of Japanese and Western elements gives the building a striking and cool impression.
The YouTube channel “OMOSSY CHANNEL”, run by owner Ren Yamada and his team, covers tattoos, music, and cultural topics.
Each artist at “TATTOO STUDIO YAMADA” has a unique artistic style. Some specialize in pieces inspired by ukiyo-e(traditional Japanese woodblock prints), others focus on American traditional tattoos, and some draw influence from Japanese anime culture. Their artistry, as well as their generations, genders, and nationalities, are all diverse—truly representing a multicultural tattoo scene. This diversity allows clients to select an artist whose style matches their vision, a freedom that contributes to the studio’s popularity. Depending on the artist’s schedule, walk-in tattoos are sometimes available without prior booking.
In the showcase beside the reception area, visitors will find original goods designed by the studio’s artists. The lineup includes T-shirts, long-sleeve shirts, caps, socks, ashtrays, and even collaboration pieces with fashion brands. Some limited-edition releases sell out immediately after launch, attracting fans who visit specifically to buy them. These goods appeal not only to tattoo enthusiasts but also to those interested in fashion and art culture.
Directly across from the studio stands its sister shop “Born Losers,” opened in 2024. Two additional artists work there alongside owner Ren Yamada.
