disk union, known for its strong focus on vinyl records both new and used, has built a loyal fan base across numerous locations, especially in the Kanto area.
The flagship Shinjuku store spans eight floors, from the basement to the seventh floor, with each floor dedicated to a different genre—from progressive rock to Latin and Brazilian music, covering niche scenes with impressive depth.
In 2023, a new specialty shop opened on the ground floor, right at the entrance: theAnime Song Game Music Store the only disk union shop specializing in anime and game soundtracks. Here, collectors can enjoy world-famous anime and game music in physical formats like vinyl and CD—a true haven for enthusiasts.
The store sits in the heart of Shinjuku Sanchome. Around the shop you’ll find classic Japanese spots like the long-standing café “Meikyoku Coffee Shinjuku Ramburu,” BEAMS JAPAN, and Don Quijote.
The entrance artwork is by collage artist Kosuke Kawamura, who also served as creative director for UNIQLO’s “UT” line.
Just below, on the basement floor, is the Heisei J-POP Store.
Upstairs on the second floor is the Showa Kayo Hall, offering a deep dive into Japan’s musical heritage—all under one roof.
Though compact at just 11 tsubo (approx. 36 square meters), the store is packed with titles across genres including anime theme songs, drama CDs, works by voice actors, VOCALOID, VTubers, and doujin CDs. With vinyl, CDs, cassettes, books, and more, this is a high-density space where even browsing is exciting.
Most inventory is sourced through domestic secondhand purchases, resulting in a rich lineup of rare records and nostalgic formats like the 8cm single CD, popular in Japan during the 1990s. You’ll find music spanning eras—from classics like Tiger Mask and Space Battleship Yamato to goods from the upcoming 2025 theatrical release Virgin Punk.
The first thing you’ll see upon entering is a wall of CDs—so many that you’ll want to start digging right away.
Records are sorted alphabetically by title, with index dividers. Used records come labeled by condition: (S) sealed, (A) excellent, (B) good, (C) worn.
The singles section features nostalgic anime like Dr. Slump Arale-chan and Urusei Yatsura from the ’80s and ’90s.
CDs are displayed with the cover facing forward, making it easy to browse visually.
The 8cm CD, popular in Japan during the ’90s, comes in a tall “tanzaku” format rarely seen outside the country.
Studio Ghibli soundtracks—especially popular with international visitors—have dedicated shelf space and English-labeled indexes.
Near the register, there’s a section for anime- and game-related books, including magazines, art collections, and strategy guides.

This is a reissue of the recordings of "Tori no Uta", the title song of the famous PC game "AIR", which is a masterpiece of the anime song world and is also called the "National Anthem" on the Internet. The original version was sold only at an event in 2006 and sold for over 300,000 yen in the used market. 7,700 yen.
disk union operates its own production division DIW PRODUCTS GROUP, home to numerous genre-specific labels. Anime Song Game Music Store especially features two standouts: CINEMA-KAN Label, focused on soundtracks from film and animation, and CASSETRON, dedicated to game music. The shop offers plenty for die-hard fans—from first-time vinyl pressings of long-unreleased titles to reissues of out-of-print classics. Thanks to disk union’s long-standing industry relationships, official anime collaborations and store-exclusive merch are constantly being released.
