"CITAN" is an urban hostel where lodging, dining, and music come together under one roof. On the first floor, "BERTH COFFEE" welcomes guests with the aroma of beans roasted in its own roastery from early morning, while in the basement DJ lounge, the sound of vinyl fills the space on weekends. Here, travelers and locals naturally strike up conversations. Many repeat guests are backpackers or solo travelers, making it ideal for those who want to enjoy both “staying and meeting.”

A Hostel in Higashi-Nihonbashi, “The Starting Point of Journeys”

The Nihonbashi area was historically the starting point of the Five Highways (Gokaidō) and flourished as a commercial district where people and goods gathered. Located here, "CITAN" takes its name from the Japanese word “shitan” (meaning starting point), reflecting the wish to be “a place where people and cultures gather and something new begins.” The location offers direct access from both Narita and Haneda airports without transfers, and it is also close to sightseeing spots such as Ginza, Asakusa, and Tsukiji. At the same time, the neighborhood retains local shops and eateries that are not overly tourist-oriented, allowing visitors to experience everyday life in Tokyo.

CITAN" is located on a street corner in Nihonbashi. At first glance, this urban hostel looks like a café.

Around the front desk on the first floor, there is a reception counter with a wood texture, a shared lounge, and amenities convenient for your stay.

Original pajamas and other carefully selected goods are also on sale. Many travelers purchase these items to commemorate their stay.

Bicycle rentals from "tokyobike" are also convenient for exploring the neighborhood and visiting local restaurants.

A Stay that Combines Hostel, Café, and Dining

BERTH COFFEE" is located just inside the entrance on the right, and is open to the community, with not only guests but also regular customers stopping by before going to work. The beans are mainly from Central and South America and have a gorgeous aroma and sweet taste. The semi-basement floor is open at night as a dining room and bar. Food includes fresh pasta supervised by the former main chef of "K5," craft beer from their own nearby brewery, drinks made with lemons directly from the farm, and other food culture that connects with the local area.

The counter is lined with several types of beans ranging from shallow roast to medium to deep roast.

It has a gorgeous aroma and firm sweetness.

The basement floor is a dining floor where you can enjoy food and drinks in a relaxed atmosphere.

Sofa seating is also available.

TOKIWA HAZE is characterized by its Kawachi Bunkan aroma and tropical flavor.

The lineup of craft beers will showcase connections with local producers and various breweries in the country.

A popular menu item is the tripe and charred cabbage paccheri with pasta. The sweetness of the savory grilled cabbage is intertwined with the tomato-based stew sauce, and the volume is perfect.

Enjoy Music in the DJ Lounge & Bar

On weekends, the basement floor hosts lounge-style play by DJs from Japan and abroad. The soundproof space has record racks along the walls, a DJ booth in the center, and sofa seating in the back, where you can enjoy music and conversation while relaxing. The music selection is different from the club-like exuberance, making it a place to encounter a wide variety of sounds regardless of genre, such as jazz, soul, and house. Some of the guests, who are staying for an extended period of time, even stand up in booths and perform club music from their own countries. It functions as a new type of social space where natural interactions are created through music.

The basement floor doubles as a DJ lounge and restaurant. On weekends, DJs from Japan and abroad play here.

Various national, international and local DJs will select music for the lounge.

Comfortable Facilities for Long-Term Stays

The facilities of "CITAN" are designed not only for short-term travelers but also for long-term guests. Every bed in the dormitory rooms is equipped with curtains, reading lights, and outlets, ensuring privacy and comfort. There is also a women-only floor, along with laundry machines and lockers for extended stays. In addition, behind the first-floor reception is a shared space exclusively for guests, equipped with a communal kitchen and refrigerator, allowing for simple cooking, brought-in meals, or relaxed work.

All beds in the dormitory rooms have curtains. By drawing the curtains, you can get a complete semi-private room feel, allowing guests arriving late at night to rest without worrying about their surroundings.

Both the private rooms and dormitory rooms have beds designed and engineered by "ALLOY," and the mattresses are exquisitely thick and resilient. The large king room we visited has a large window by the bed that lets in soft natural light.

A common space for the exclusive use of guests is located behind the front desk on the first floor.

It is equipped with a kitchenette and refrigerator for self-catering.

Hospitality Entirely Carried Out by the Staff

One of the most distinctive features of "CITAN" is its approach to hospitality: “we do everything ourselves.” Room cleaning and bed-making are handled directly by the staff without outsourcing. This ensures thorough cleanliness and attentive care from the guest’s perspective. Such efforts have led to high ratings on international booking sites, including “9.8 for cleanliness” and “9.9 for staff.”
